UNFCCC SB60 Side Event

On 8 June 2024, FIAN Zambia participated in a side event at the 60th Session of the Subsidiary Bodies (SB60) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), focusing on climate justice and the urgent need to challenge false solutions presented under the guise of climate action.

The event took place in the aftermath of COP28, where the adoption of the Loss and Damage Fund (FLD) was a major milestone after over three decades of negotiation. However, participants expressed concern over the simultaneous endorsement of nuclear energy as a "clean" solution and the use of vague language in climate commitments particularly the reference to "transitioning away from fossil fuels" instead of committing to a full "phase-out."
