Advocacy on the Right to Food in Mumbwa
From 24 to 26 August 2024, FIAN Zambia conducted a media advocacy to Mumbwa District to highlight the impact of the ongoing drought on smallholder farmers, particularly in Chief Kaindu’s area. The visit aimed to draw public attention to the worsening right to food situation and to advocate for immediate government intervention.
The visit resulted in the publication of several media reports detailing the lived experiences of affected communities and the severity of food insecurity caused by prolonged dry spells. These reports played a pivotal role in prompting a government response, including an official visit to the area to assess the food crisis and initiate relief efforts.
FIAN Zambia continues to advocate for long-term solutions to food insecurity, including support for smallholder farmers, sustainable agriculture practices, and timely government interventions in times of crisis.
