Fact-Finding Mission in Siawaza and Sianzovu, Sinazongwe District

On 23 September 2024, FIAN Zambia conducted a fact-finding mission to Siawaza and Sianzovu communities in Sinazongwe District, Southern Province. The purpose of the mission was to identify the precise location of substantial lithium deposits recently discovered in the area, as proposed mining activities threaten to displace local communities and deprive them access to land and water resources. This displacement is also expected to negatively impact access to education and healthcare services.

A meeting was held at the residence of Senior Headman Sianzovu, where FIAN Zambia met with both Senior Headman Sianzovu and Headman Siawaza, along with selected community representatives.
